WHAT IS EVENTING?
Eventing is comprised of Three Stages. The combination of different disciplines in the competition is run on a cumulative penalty basis. The competitor with the least penalties at the end is the declared the winner. National Class competitions will strictly adhere to the Stages in sequence. However, in International Class competitions, the order may be liable to change depending on type of class.1st Stage - Dressage
An exhibition which showcases the horse training including walk, trot, and gallop. The competitor must maneuver through a set sequence of compulsory movements within an area. One or more judges will be looking for balance, rhythm, and obedience of the horse, and most importantly, the harmony between horse and rider. Each movement is scored out of ten, the total added to a penalty score.2nd Stage - Show Jumping
This stage highlights the athleticism, control, and accuracy of horses. One round of jumping over fences within a set timeframe. Failure to clear the fences without knocking them down will incur penalties, as well as finishing within the allotted time.3rd Stage - Cross Country
A course of natural obstacles is laid out to be jumped within a set timeframe. Penalties are incurred from not being able to finish on time, stopping at obstacles, as well as falling off from the horse.
Thomas Ho is exploring three possible avenues for promoting his mission towards excelling in Eventing and inspiring others to follow his footsteps.
